Israel reportedly conducted airstrikes against several targets in Aleppo on the night of 27 March 2019, targeting Iranian ammunition stores and its military logistics hub at Nayrab Air Base, co-located with Aleppo International Airport, which is closed to commercial aviation. At least seven people were reportedly killed and five injured, all of whom were Iranian military personnel or militias linked to Iran, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. There is a strong presence of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Hizbullah, and Iran-backed pro-government forces in Aleppo, often competing for influence and control of lucrative checkpoints with other pro-government forces backed by Russia.
