5,200 Chabad emissaries meet in New York for their annual conference
24.11.2014, Community Life Some 5,200 Chabad emissaries from more than 80 countries gathered in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, over the weekend for the 31st annual event.
The Chabad-Lubavitch rabbis met in New York for the ‘’‘Kinus Hashluchim’’, an annual event in which the emissaries of the Lubavitcher rebbe, who died in 1994, convene and compare notes. This gathering started in 1984. The first gathering drew 65 rabbis.
As the number of participants swelled—more than 4,200 rabbis are in town for this year’s conference—the photo has grown in scope with the rabbis crowding the frame.
This year, a few tech-savvy rabbis decided to add a modern twist to the photo. With the help of local photographer Chaim Perl, and using Twitter and WhatsApp to coordinate, they gathered before the main shot to take a massive group selfie.
