The Dnepropetrovsk region governor Alexander Vilkul presented in Golden Rose the book “Jews of Dnepropetrovsk region: history and present day” initiated by him for 80th anniversary of the region.
The synagogue packed to capacity received the governor with a standing ovation and “Lomir Ale Ineynem” sung by Beit Baruch veterans’ choir.
In his opening speech Chief Rabbi Kaminezki thanked Mr. Vilkul for him numerous good deeds, in particular a series of books on national communities of the region.
In his turn the governor spoke about the achievements of the region and role of Jews and Jewish community in its success and gave the first copy of the new book to rabbi Kaminezki.
It turned out that one of the parishioners – Eliyahu Shafirovich- was born on the birthday of the region, February 27, 1932, and the governor warmly congratulated him.
The speeches were also given by Nelly Shulman of the Israel embassy and culture center, member of the community Board Alexander Kaganovsky, head of the Jewish veterans’ council Solomon Flax.
The musical program consisted of performances by the veterans’ choir, children’s kleizmer group and “Aidishe mame” by Ida Tsypkina who’s recently celebrated her 90th birthday.
After the presentation Chief Rabbi Kaminezki took the governor on a tour of the menorah center construction.
