                  UNESCO: how did the 27 EU member states vote ?

                  Five European Union member states voted 'No' Monday on admitting Palestine as full member of UNESCO, the United Nations body for culture, science and education: Germany, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Holland and Sweden.
                  Eleven countries voted 'Yes': France, Austria, Belgium, Spain, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Malta, Slovenia.
                  Eleven countries abstained: Britain, Italy, Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Romania, Hungary, Poland (the country which currently holdsthe EU presidency), Latvia, Portugal and Slovakia.
                  The official EU position is opposed to Palestinian unilateral moves and calls for a resumption of direct Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.
