Fascinating Lectures for Jews of Volgograd
18.03.2011, Community Life A lecture series was offered at the Volgograd synagogue, the Ohr Avner Chabad Day School in Volgograd, as well as the Jewish communities in the nearby cities of Svetly Yar and Volzhsky. The talks, delivered by well-known Moscow historian and journalist Semyon Charny, focused on various aspects of Jewish history.
This lecture series took place thanks to Vogograd Jewish community’s cooperation with the Sefer Center for Jewish Studies. This program allows graduate students and young researchers in various fields of Jewish studies to present their research through lectures in Jewish communities and educational institutions of the Russian Federation, the CIS and the Baltic countries.
Young teachers in the field of Jewish studies are an important force capable of impacting the Jewish community and cultural life. At the moment, the list of speakers includes 48 people, involving more than 100 courses of lectures.
During his lectures, Mr. Charny discussed questions not only regarding the history of Russian Jews, but also issues affecting the Jewish community today, including anti-Semitism and the struggle against it. He also answered numerous questions from community members.
