Students in the youngest class of the yeshiva k’tana (elementary yeshiva) of Dnepropetrovsk enjoyed a celebration in honor of their completion of studying the book of Genesis, the first book of the Pentateuch. The holiday was called “Mesibat HaChumash.”
These young Jews sat on the stage, each wearing a white shirt with a gold tie and paper crown, feeling part of the great legacy of the Jewish people and appreciating the great treasure of the Torah.
The children and their parents listened to talks delivered by the yeshiva’s director, Rabbi Reuven Chupin, junior group director Shneur Giertz, as well as Rabbi Yoseph Glick, the director of the children's organization Tzivos Hashem in the CIS.
The children demonstrated their Jewish knowledge short plays, songs and other performances, each of which was devoted to a particular episode of the book of Genesis.
Rabbi Chupin, who was met with great applause, proudly presented each of the children his very own copy of the book of Genesis. The celebratation culminated in dancing with the Torah scrolls, in which both the children and parents enthusiastically took part.
The yeshiva k’tana of Dneprovetrovsk is part of the largest Jewish educational network in the CIS, under the auspices of the Ohr Avner Foundation and with the financial support of FJC President Lev Leviev.
