A weekend filled with excitement, adventure and lots of fun is in store for over 500 young Jewish people at Party Like a Jew, on 26-28th November in Brussels, Belgium.
Highlights are to include visiting the famous landmarks of the capital of Europe, exploring the picturesque town of Gent, celebrating Shabbat with delicious food and great company, learning and questioning at interactive workshops and getting glamorous and partying the night away at a ball run by UEJB, the Belgian union of Jewish students.
Party Like a Jew is organized by the European Centre for Jewish Students (ECJS), the largest European organization for young adults in Europe.
Based in Brussels, ECJS works to bring Jewish students and young professionals together in order to preserve and unify the Jewish European society.
The annual three-day event attracts hundreds of young Jewish people from all over Europe and beyond.
It gives the opportunity for the future leaders to share ideas and build lifelong friendships.
“I most enjoy meeting people from all over Europe, the United States and Israel from different backgrounds and spending a lovely Shabbat with them,” says Samuel Wurman from Brussels.
“By experiencing such a weekend surrounded by that many young Jewish people I realized how important Judaism is to me.”
And it is not just friendships that are made at ECJS events. During the last four years over 20 participants have so far met their husband or wife at an event and many more are engaged to be married.
Gary McWhir from London and Sari Rubin from Israel met at a Purim event in Milan in 2008. They married in Israel the same year and now lives in Britain.
During the next weekend internationally renowned speaker, Rabbi Yossi Ives, will be leading interactive workshops on life, relationships and other contemporary Jewish issues.
ECJS holds five main events a year all over Europe as well as arranging services and meals for Shabbatot and holidays, and an annual Birthright trip to Israel.
In order to reach even more young Jews, a sister organization called JEP (Jewish European Professionals) is to be launched in early 2011 and is to cater specifically for single Jewish young professionals aged 27-38.
