Purim in Mariupol
05.03.2010, Community Life The Jewish Community of Mariupol gathered at the Aristocrat Restaurant for a Purim celebration attended by Jews of all ages –children, teenagers, and young adults through senior citizens.
The restaurant was filled to capacity, as people came out to rejoice on this special holiday. For those who did not come in costumes or masks, face-painting was available at the event itself. Various kinds of noise-makers were distributed, to be used especially when the Scroll of Esther was read.
Children from the Simcha Kindergarten put on a delightful performance featuring songs and poems about Purim. The audience enjoyed the adorable performers whose childish joy filled the room. Students from the Ohr Avner Chabad Day School presented a remarkable Purim play. The children had eagerly prepared for the holiday and the special performance, learning their parts, picking out props and costumes, singing and dancing! Their efforts garnered the appreciation of everyone present.
After the reading of the Megillah, the crowd enjoyed lively Jewish songs performed by the Melody Hearts Duet. For the children, there was also a carnival, with entertainment, exciting contests, and great prizes. Each child also received a gift for participating in the competitions and for wearing a Purim costume.
The Jewish community of Mariupol is a proud member of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine.
